Paying It Forward

The keto community is really amazing.  There are so many people that are putting out content explaining how they make keto work for themselves.  There are podcasts and blogs and recipe sites and forums and videos and conferences and books and the list keeps on going.

I would not have been nearly as successful without all of these resources. They have all helped me to improve my health immensely.  Here are a few of the improvements I have seen:
  • I've lost over 140 pounds.
  • I've started an exercise program and have gained quite a bit of strength.
  • I've been able to stop taking insulin (120 units of Lantus daily) and Bydureon.
  • I no longer have acid re-flux.
  • I have more energy and feel better.
  • I feel that good health may now be achievable, where before I thought it would forever elude my grasp. 
There have been literally hundreds of people, that have helped me on my journey.  If you are helping your fellow people, I want to sincerely thank you.  And this is why I want to give back to the keto community.  This is why I started this blog and why I helped to start the Minnesota Ketonians meetup group.  I want to pay it forward.

And now I'm calling on everyone who has benefited from keto to pay it forward as well. You don't need to start a blog or podcast.  Even the little things help.  They actually may help the most of all.  When someone mentions you seem more healthy lately, tell them it's thanks to the science behind keto.  If they are genuinely interested, tell them a little more.  Share your story with people who want to hear it.  When asked, offer advice from your experiences.

I've put quite a bit of work into this blog, the meetup group, and supporting other ketonians on forums and Facebook.  But I want to share a secret with you.  All of this is probably helping me more than anyone else.  First it keeps me motivated.  It's easier to resist carbage when I have others helping me to be accountable to myself.  Also the meetup group is a place where we each share our challenges and discoveries.  I'm definitely getting lots of inspiration from the group.

So to those of you giving back to the keto community I want to give you my heartfelt gratitude.  To those of you just starting your keto journey, I challenge you to give back when you are ready.
